Sixth

Curriculum Guide

Our sixth grade program lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning. At Asheville PEAK Academy, we create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where scholars build confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning.

English Literature Arts

In 6th grade, scholars build on their literacy foundation by reading a wide range of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. They practice analyzing themes, citing evidence, and expanding vocabulary. Writing focuses on essays, narratives, and research projects, helping students strengthen organization, grammar, and critical thinking skills.

Science

Following the NC Standard Course of Study, 6th graders investigate Earth systems, weather and climate, energy transfer, ecosystems, and forces and motion. Hands-on labs and experiments help students think like scientists while developing inquiry and problem-solving skills.

Math

6th grade math deepens number sense and problem-solving. Scholars explore ratios and proportions, fractions and decimals, integers, algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities, area, surface area, and volume. They connect math to real-world problem solving through both digital and hands-on learning

Social Studies

In 6th grade, scholars study early civilizations, exploring government, culture, geography, economics, and history. They analyze how ancient societies shaped the modern world, while practicing map skills, research, and historical thinking.
